Gooey Butter Cake

There are people that adamantly hate Paula Deen for her unhealthy dishes. I am not one of them. In fact, her gooey butter cake is probably my favorite thing to put in my facehole. I really shouldn’t call it “her” gooey butter cake, because it was actually my Grandma who introduced me to this crack in cake form.

As the name suggests, it is gooey. And there is a lot of butter involved. It is also really easy to make. All you need is:

1 18 1/4-ounce package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box powdered sugar

Preheat your oven to 350 and mix together the cake ingredients. I find it easiest to nuke the butter for less than 30 seconds so it is nice and soft/half melted. Mix all of that together and then line your pan (13×9 works best) with your “cake” mix.

After that, mix together all of the filling ingredients. Again, with the cream cheese and the butter, melt that shit! It makes it a lot easier to blend, especially if you are just using a wooden spoon like I was. I usually add the powdered sugar little by little for a more even consistency.

Pour this mixture over your cake mixture. Pop this bad boy in your oven for 40-50 minutes, pull out, and even immediately if you like it really warm and gooey (yeah I went there.) If you want to cut it into bars, you will unfortunately have to wait an hour or so for it to cool and solidify a little more so it doesn’t crumble on you.

Lastly, I always dust a little more powdered sugar on the top, you know, because there isn’t enough sugar and butter in this concoction as it is. If you want to get really crazy, serve it a la mode and then run to your nearest clinic to get tested for diabetes.
